The Astrophysics Research Centre (ARC) at Queen’s University Belfast invites applications for an STFC-funded postdoctoral research position to work with Dr. Rubina Kotak in the area of interacting supernovae and related transients.
The supernova group is a vibrant and productive research group within ARC, and currently comprises 17 members. The successful applicant will be expected to support and participate in ongoing projects, and play a leading role in the acquisition and management of future observations via a range of ground- and space-based facilities. In particular, the Public ESO Survey of Transient Objects (PESSTO) is led by QUB, as are a number of key PESSTO programmes, inlcuding interacting supernovae, direct identification of progenitors, and ultraluminous supernovae.
Applicants must have, or be about to obtain a PhD in astrophysics or a closely-related discipline. Experience in the reduction, analysis, and interpretation of observations of supernovae or related transients is essential. Furthermore, the candidate must have authored high quality refereed publications in the research field commensurate with their stage of career. Experience in the characterisation of interacting supernovae is highly desirable.
The position is available for three years, with a nominal start date of 2014 April 01.
Salary scale: £30728 – £35597 per annum
