Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position in star formation and galactic star clusters working with Jura Borissova in the star cluster group of University of Valparaiso, Valparaiso, Chile. The aim of the project is to investigate the star cluster population in the Milky Way in the near infrared mainly using "Vista variables in Via Lactea (VVV)" ESO Large Survey. We seek to build a large, statistically significant sample of clusters visible in the infrared. This will allow us to extend the spatially biased current cluster population to an unbiased population, and to deeply analyze it by a multi-method approach (near-infrared spectrophotometry, proper motions, quantitative spectral classification, long-baseline light curve analysis).
The applicant should have a PhD in astronomy/astrophysics. We seek candidates with experience of reducing and analyzing near infrared photometry and spectroscopy. Candidates with interests in star and cluster formation and experience with radio (especially mm/submm) data reduction and analysis are also encouraged to apply.
The appointment is for two years, with renewals for up to a five years possible, contingent upon satisfactory progress. The starting date will be as soon as possible. Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, brief summary of research experience, list of publications, and arrange to have two letters of reference sent to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Closing date for receipt of applications is 7 Abril 2014.
