The Astronomy Department at the University of Virginia is seeking applicants for an Instrument and Laboratory Technologist.
This position will support, maintain and develop departmental teaching and research infrastructure and instrumentation. The incumbent will be responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of instructional laboratory equipment including local telescopes and McCormick and Fan Mountain observatories as well as planning for upgrades and improvements to this teaching infrastructure. This position will also be involved in the support and development of research instrumentation in conjunction with the Virginia Astronomical Instrumentation Laboratory including both previously deployed as well as future instrumentation. The candidate should expect to support faculty in making effective decisions regarding commercially available equipment and assist in the implementation of those decisions, as well as assist in grant writing when appropriate.
To be considered an applicant must have a PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics, or Physics OR the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required.
Candidates available to start prior to May 1, 2014 are preferred.
