The University of Sussex invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in extra-galactic astrophysics.
The successful applicant will be funded by STFC under the Astronomy Centre’s consolidated grant project “The fuelling and suppression of star formation through representative studies of galaxy populations”. This project has three areas (a) The role of environment in star formation (b) The specific star formation (sSFR) relation and (c) The interplay between active star formation and AGN activity. The applicant will develop and exploit survey data sets including in particular Herschel HerMES and VISTA VIDEO. There will be significant benefit from the work led at Sussex on the European Commission REA funded Herschel Extragalactic Legacy Project (HELP).
The Astronomy Centre has a powerful combination of theoretical, numerical and observational expertise carefully focussed on extragalactic science (see http://astronomy.sussex.ac.uk).
Education to PhD level, in Physics, Astronomy, or a related discipline, is an essential requirement. Experience within areas related to the specific research project is highly desirable.
Enquiries should be addressed to Professor. Seb Oliver (S.Oliver@Sussex.ac.uk) or Dr Stephen Wilkins (S.Wilkins@sussex.ac.uk).
Candidates should complete an application form and include a CV and a statement of research interests and skills with their application.
