The Faculty of Physical Sciences, in the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences at the University of Iceland, seeks applicants to fill a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in the area of Astrophysics.

Applicants should have received a doctorate degree in Astrophysics, preferably within the last 5-10 years. The field of expertise and the research program of the successful candidate should complement the strengths of the Faculty. According to the regulations of the University, at the start of employment the Rector may grant promotion to qualified candidates, to the level of Associate or full Professor.

The successful applicant must have an excellent research track record and demonstrate potential to develop a strong research and academic program, including teaching physics at undergraduate level and supervise graduate students. The current topics of interest within the astrophysics group include: gamma-ray bursts, supernovae, gravitational lensing, cosmology and matter distribution within the Milky Way. We are looking for candidates who can complement or strengthen our activity in these and closely related areas. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential assets.
