We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in the context of the EMBIGGEN collaborative project, which includes researchers from Universidad de Concepcion, Universidad de Chile and Pontificia Universidad Catolica, all based in Chile. The main goal of this project is to study AGN and galaxy evolution, with an emphasis on galaxy mergers. Both theorists and observers are invited to apply. Theorist are expected to work on simulations of black hole growth, coalescence and feedback in galaxy mergers while observers will work on a variety of projects involving data from ALMA, NuSTAR, VLT, Chandra and other major observatories.
The position is initially offered for one year, with a very likely extension for 2+ years depending on performance and availability of funds. Candidates must have received their PhD prior to the beginning of the Fellowship. Depending on his/her research interests, the Fellow will join one of the three participating institutions, while strong interdepartmental collaborations are expected. The Fellow will be considered a Chilean astronomer and therefore will have independent access to the guaranteed 10% observing time on all telescopes in Chile, including ALMA, APEX, ASTE, VLT, Gemini-S, and Magellan.
The position is available immediately and the starting date is flexible. Electronic applications, as a single pdf file, are strongly encouraged and should be sent directly to Prof. Treister (firstname.lastname@example.org); mail submissions may be sent to the postal address listed above. Applications will be reviewed starting on September 15, 2014 and until the position is filled.
Applicants must send their curriculum vitae, bibliography, and a brief description of their anticipated research program. Email inquiries can be directed to Prof. Treister (email@example.com) or any other EMBIGGEN researcher, all listed in the above website.
