Applicants are invited for postdoctoral positions based in the Department of Astronomy at Peking University. The successful applicants will work with Prof. Xiaowei Liu on projects addressing outstanding problems in the study of the stellar populations, the chemical and dynamical evolution and the assemblage of the Milky Way and the Local Group, utilizing millions of high quality optical spectra collected withe LAMOST telescope, as well as astrometric, photometric and spectroscopic data from other surveys (SDSS/APOGEE, RAVE, Gaia etc). Applicants with expertise in observations or modeling of stellar populations, in chemical abundance analysis, galactic dynamics or numerical simulations are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates of any nationality are welcome.
The appointment will be for two years with a possibility for a third. Salary and compensation depend on qualifications and experience. The successful applicants will receive a generous research budget and will be encouraged to pursue national and international collaborations. There are four starting dates available, July 1 / Oct 1, 2016 / Jan 1 / April 1, 2017. The applicant should hold a PhD in Astronomy, Physics, or a related field by the effective date. The candidates should have ages less than 35 and receive his/her PhD degree less than 5 five years ago.
