IRAM is an international research organization for millimeter and submillimeter astronomy supported by the CNRS (France), the Max-Planck Gesellschaft (Germany), and the IGN (Spain). IRAM operates two world-class research facilities, a 30-meter single-dish telescope (Spain) and the mm/submm interferometer NOEMA (France). The scientific capabilities of the 30-meter telescope are continuously enhanced with state-of-the-art technology such as for EMIR, the multi-wavelength heterodyne frontend, and, with the recent commissioning of the new large field-of-view continuum camera NIKA2.
IRAM invites applications for a postdoctoral research position at IRAM/Granada. The successful candidate is expected to invest 50% of the time on personal astronomical research and 50% to support science operation. IRAM is seeking an astronomer with a PhD in millimeter astronomy and experience with continuum cameras and / or heterodyne frontends at millimeter/submillimeter observatories. The candidate will join the Science Operations Group to provide assistance to visiting astronomers, to help in calibrating and reducing the incoming data, and to support the commissioning of new instrumentation. Knowledge of a programming language like python is a strong asset. He/she will typically spend about one week per month at the observatory.
Candidates must have completed the PhD prior to beginning the position. Review of applications will begin in October 2016 with an anticipated start date end of 2016. In any case, the position will remain open until filled. The appointment is initially for two years with the possibility of extension. Applications should be sent to the IRAM personnel department, [email protected], and should include a cover letter indicating motivation and qualifications, a curriculum vitae with a list of publications, and a short research statement. Applicants should arrange for two letters of reference to be sent to the personnel department. Inquiries should be addressed to the station manager Carsten Kramer, [email protected].
