Job Announcement Text:

The Caltech-JPL Gravitational Wave-Pulsar Timing Array group is seeking qualified individuals for one or more post-doctoral appointments to work in the area of opening the nanohertz frequency regime of the gravitational wave spectrum.

This position is one of several postdoctoral positions that are funded through the North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves (NANOGrav), an NSF Physics Frontier Center (http://nanograv.org/).  The goal of the NANOGrav PFC is to open the low-frequency gravitational wave Universe through radio timing observations of pulsars.

The Caltech-JPL Gravitational Wave-Pulsar Timing Array group conducts research in a broad range of topics: we conduct pulsar timing observations, we analyze pulsar timing data to search for gravitational waves from different classes of sources, we explore the astrophysics of nanohertz gravitational wave sources and their
environments, and we develop improved algorithmic approaches for detection and noise characterization (most notably interstellar propagation effects).

The postdoctoral researchers will be part of a diverse community of NANOGrav members in the United States and Canada and will benefit from collaboration with researchers at a range of institutions.  The postdoctoral researcher will also play a large role in the work of the International Pulsar Timing Array and will have ample opportunities
for international travel and collaboration.

The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal for two additional years, and could start as early as 2017 January.  To apply, please send a CV, publication list, statement of research and 3 letters of reference to Michele Vallisneri ([email protected]) by 2016 December 1.  Applications will be accepted until 2016 December 1, but consideration of applicants will begin in November.

Caltech is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national
origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
