Postdoctoral Researcher in Observations and Modelling of Explosive Transients
2 years fixed term in the first instance
£31,656 - £37,768 per annum
Vacancy Reference: 1575

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position on supernovae and novae within the time-domain astrophysics group at the Astrophysics Research Institute, Liverpool John Moores University.

The ARI has a leading position in the study of explosive transients, combining expertise in theoretical modelling and observations, including access to the robotic Liverpool Telescope (LT). It is a member of the ESO/NTT PESSTO survey.

The successful candidate will participate in the group's observational programmes, using the LT and other instruments.  The PDRA will contribute to the observations, data reduction and analysis.

They will also work on modelling SN data, especially Type Ib/c Supernovae, with P.A. Mazzali.

The applicant should have a PhD in astronomy/astrophysics or a closely related field.  We seek candidates with experience with modelling of eruptive/explosive transients and associated physics, and/or optical observations of transient sources (photometry,  spectroscopy).  Willingness to work on both modelling and observations is required.

The position is guaranteed for two years, with possible extension subject to funding.

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Paolo Mazzali, email: [email protected]
or Professor Chris Collins, email: [email protected]
