The Space Telescope Science Institute, located on the campus of Johns Hopkins University, is seeking an Archive Analyst for our Operations and Engineering Division, Archive Sciences Branch. Come join the Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes (MAST) team. MAST is looking for an Archive Analyst to provide scientific, technical and computational expertise to enhance the MAST Archive including support of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) holdings.

The Archive Analyst interacts with science product users, data providers, software developers, test engineers and IT administrators to define new processes, tools, and enhanced products. They provide direct support and advice to archive users in the effective use, search, and retrieval of data. They monitor and ensure consistency checking for the archive and associated catalogs and provide appropriate reports.

The role of the successful candidate will primarily be to support and participate in planning, definition, implementation, and continued support of processes, procedures and tools for the JWST archive.

Requirements:

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Astronomy, Physics or related field is required. Experience supporting astronomical research or observatory support function is a plus. The starting position and salary are commensurate with education and experience.

Familiarity with three or more of the following is required:

• Astronomy tools and packages (e.g. AstroPy, PyRAF/STSDAS, Astrodrizzle)
• Relevant software programming languages (e.g. Python, IDL)
• Databases, SQL
• Astronomical data (including images, spectra, catalogs, models, simulations)
• Identification and collection of astronomical meta-data
• Web page creation and maintenance
• Procedure writing and maintenance

Substitution of additional relevant education or experience for stated qualifications may be considered.
