The University of Alabama in Huntsville in association with NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center and the National Space Science and Technology Center, is pleased to invite applications for a NASA-sponsored Postdoctoral Fellowship in High Energy Astrophysics. Preference will be given to applicants interested in collaborating with members of Marshall's X-ray Astronomy Group and/or UAH Physics Department on experimental or observational astrophysics research.
Current experimental research areas include the development of grazing-incidence x-ray optics for near term and future missions, the development of x-ray detectors for focal plane and stand-alone use, and modeling and simulations of flight instruments. Current observational and theoretical research areas include cosmology, galaxy evolution and stellar feedback, extragalactic X-ray source populations, the physics of compact objects, and X-ray studies of planets and comets using Chandra, Hubble, XMM-Newton and other space and ground-based observatories.
Minimum qualifications include a doctoral degree in Physics or Astronomy, 1-3 years of related work experience, to include experience developing numerical and theoretical models of astrophysical processes. The ability to develop testing procedures for X-ray optics and produce additional records to include laboratory manuals and testing procedures is desired. The appointment is customarily for a minimum of two years subject to annual review and to available funding from NASA. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience with an excellent benefits package.
