Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Scholar position in extragalactic astrophysics at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center (IPAC) at Caltech. The successful applicant will work with Dr. James Colbert and Dr. Harry Teplitz on Hubble Space Telescope projects including: (1) measuring new limits on the Lyman Continuum escape fraction in deep UV images, and (2) the WFC3 Infrared Spectroscopic Parallel survey (WISPs), studying star-forming galaxies over a wide range of cosmic time.
Responsibilities will include reduction of HST data, analysis and interpretation, and publication of scientific results. Experience with HST data and extragalactic astronomy, and the ability to work in an active team environment, is highly desirable. Candidates should have obtained, by the starting date, a Ph.D. in astronomy, physics or equivalent, in an area relevant to these projects. The successful applicant will have some time for their own research, and will be able to propose to the JPL Time Allocation Committee for access to the Palomar telescopes.
The appointment is for two years, based on current projected funding, with a possible extension for an additional year if future funding becomes available. To apply, please send resume, publication list, names and contact information of three references, and a statement of research to the above address. Email applications are preferred. Deadline for receipt of applications is December 15, 2016.
We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
