Job Announcement Text:

The University of Alabama in Huntsville, in association with NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center and the National Space Science and Technology Center, is pleased to invite applications for a NASA-sponsored Fellowship in High Energy Astrophysics.  The fellowship provides an opportunity for postdoctoral scientists to conduct independent research broadly related to the mission and scientific goals of Marshall's X-ray Astronomy Team and UAH's Physics Department.  The proposed research may be observational, experimental or a combination.

The MSFC X-ray Astronomy Team and UAH Physics Department astrophysicists conduct scientific research with Chandra and other observatories on a wide range of topics from cosmology and the nature of dark energy, clusters of galaxies, source populations in nearby galaxies, neutron stars and their
environments, and solar-system bodies.  The MSFC X-ray Astronomy Team is a leader in the development of grazing- incidence X-ray optics for orbital and sub-orbital programs as well as for additional ground- based plasma diagnostics and cold-neutron applications.  Additional areas of interest include X and gamma ray polarimetry, and the development of hard-X-ray detectors for future x-ray telescopes.  The MSFC X-ray Astronomy Team also provides scientific and technical oversight of the Chandra X- ray Observatory and leads the efforts to study a new facility-class x-ray astronomy mission.

The fellowship is open to recent PhDs in Physics, Astronomy, and related disciplines.  The appointment is customarily for a minimum of two years subject to annual review and to available funding from NASA.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience with an excellent benefits package.  To ensure full consideration, qualified applicants should apply on-line at https://uah.interviewexchange.com/jobofferdetails.jsp?JOBID=76534 for the position of Postdoctoral Research Assistant II-III_CSPAR/RV3502
