The University of California Observatories (UCO) invites applications for a Project Scientist position for data pipeline development and data analysis support for UCO under the supervision of the UCO Director. The selected candidate will participate in research or creative programs and the development of modern data reduction pipelines and analysis for UCO in close collaboration with faculty, staff, and students at University of California astronomy campuses. Responsibilities include: identifying shortcomings with existing data reduction pipelines; suggest new projects at the interface of research, software development and data analysis; assist in project management; and contribute to publications.

RANK: Project Scientist

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or a related field. Experience in astronomical data reduction pipelines. Technical proficiency in python.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in astronomical software development, research astronomy, and data analysis; and/or at least three years of experience in python; and/or demonstrated experience in building version-controlled software packages; and/or broad knowledge of current themes in astronomical research especially pertaining to cosmology, galaxy formation, supernovae; and/or weak lensing research; and/or knowledge of modern statistical and machine learning techniques.

TERM OF APPOINTMENT: Initially appointed for two years with the potential for renewal pending the availability of funds.
