Associate/Full Specialist – Gamma-Ray Astrophysics - Space Sciences Laboratory
The Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL) at the University of California, Berkeley, invites applications for an Associate/Full Specialist position in experimental and observational gamma-ray astrophysics.
The incumbent will work closely with other members of the high energy astrophysics group at SSL. The position will be associated with instrumentation related to the COSI balloon payload and observational analysis with the NuSTAR X-ray telescope. They will also be responsible for interpreting data from the calibration program for the recent Nuclear Compton Telescope (NCT) balloon instrument used in balloon flight campaign in Antarctica.


The anticipated start date is February 1, 2017. The initial appointment will be full-time for 6 months, with a possibility of renewal. Extension of the appointment is subject to performance and availability of funds.
Salary will be commensurate with experience. Medical benefits are included in the compensation package.
Basic Qualifications (required at the time of application):
Advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field.
Additional Required Qualifications (required by start date):
At least four years of experience in gamma-ray instrumentation and X-ray astrophysical data analysis.


Preferred Qualifications:
PhD or equivalent in physics, astronomy, or a related field. Familiarity with low-noise analog electronics is highly desirable. Experience analyzing NuSTAR data is also desirable.
