Announcement
Job Announcement Text:

We invite applications for two postdoctoral researchers in Extragalactic Astrophysics.  Reference number: SU FV-3944-16.

The positions are available from fall 2017, for 2+1 years. Later/earlier starting is negotiable. The closing date is 19 February 2017.

The position will focus on extragalactic astronomy, and will be financed by a recent large grant awarded to consolidate the group of Associate Professor Matthew Hayes. We are searching for highly qualified scientists to undertake studies pertaining to the formation and evolution of galaxies at high redshift or in the local universe. Observational and theoretical applications are welcome, and applicants are encouraged to get in touch before of the deadline.

On the observational side, experience of starburst galaxies and feedback will be beneficial. Specifically this may be: X-ray observations and data analysis; UV absorption spectroscopy of starburst CGM; IFU observations of nebular gas, and photoionization/shock modeling; radio interferometry observations of emission lines.  Available projects are based upon large awards of telescope time at leading facilities such as the ESO/VLT and HST.  Theory applications could concern hydrodynamical or radiation transfer based calculations of the ISM/CGM.

The applicant must have a PhD (or equivalent) in Astrophysics or a related field. Stockholm University strives to be a workplace free from discrimination, with equal opportunities for all. The department consists of 15 faculty staff,  ~15 senior and postdoctoral researchers, and ~25 PhD students. Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and has an international character – most researchers have an international background and English is commonly used both at the department and in daily life.

To apply for this position, please use the Stockholm University web-based application form in English. The application should comprise, in PDF format: a cover letter (1 page), curriculum vitae, and statement of relevant scientific expertise/proposed project (max 3 pages). The applicant should ensure that three reference letters are submitted by email to [email protected] by the closing date.

Included Benefits:

The positions include full Swedish social benefits such as medical insurance and parental leave.
