Job Announcement Text:

The MIT Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research (MKI) seeks a postdoctoral position in the area of experimental physics.  The candidate will be expected to participate in laboratory development and testing work associated with the MIT-led Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), which is scheduled for launch by NASA in 2017.

TESS is expected to discover thousands of exoplanets in orbit around the brightest stars in the sky. This first-ever space borne all-sky transit survey of the solar neighborhood will identify planets ranging from Earth-sized to gas giants, around a wide range of stellar types and orbital distances.

REQURIED: a Ph.D. in experimental physics or a related field, with demonstrated initiative and critical skills, as well as experience working in laboratory instrumentation. The candidate should also be able to demonstrate significant "hands on" ability with precision opto-mechanical, electronic, and vacuum assemblies. Tasks will include working both independently, and as a team member, in the calibration of cameras and detectors for the TESS instruments.

Qualified applicants should submit a CV, publications list and statement of research interests to Academic Jobs Online (https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/7390) and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be uploaded to the site.  Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Initial appointment is for two years, renewable for a third depending on performance and funding.

U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.

MIT is an equal employment opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, ancestry, or national or ethnic origin.
