The Institute for Astro- and Particle Physics at the University of Innsbruck invites applications for a tenure track position in extragalactic astrophysics. The Institute intends to exploit the new possibilities provided by the recent accession of Austria to ESO. Therefore the application should either show a particular emphasis on a research programme using ESO facilities with the research topic focussing around galaxy clusters, galaxies and/or their interaction. A second possibility would be a good record of the candidate in numerical hydrodynamic simulations of the evolution of galaxy clusters and their constituents. In particular metal enrichment of the ICM would be an interesting topic for the simulations.
The successful candidate is expected to be strongly committed to research and teaching, to build up a small group, and to strive for a vibrant, exciting research programme.
The appointment may start as early as January 1st, 2012 and will be initially for four years with a possibility to be converted into a permanent position after these four years.
Applicants should send by email curriculum vitae, publication list, a brief statement of research interests, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent. Attachments should not exceed 5 MB.
The University of Innsbruck is an equal opportunity employer and particularly encourages applications from women.
Social, health and dental insurance, and retirement benefits are included.
