Job Announcement Text:

Applications are invited for at least one postdoctoral position in extragalactic astrophysics, galaxy evolution, and distant galaxy clusters at Texas A&M University. The successful applicant is expected to pursue his/her own research, as well as lead projects involving ongoing programs at Texas A&M. Possible research programs include work on a large-area Spitzer/IRAC survey of the HETDEX region in the SDSS stripe 82 (the Spitzer HETDEX Exploratory Large Area (SHELA) survey) and other ongoing programs with the Spitzer and Hubble Space Telescopes, including the Cosmic Assembly Near-Infrared Extragalactic Legacy Survey (CANDELS, http://candels.ucolick.org).

The main research focus of the TAMU astrophysics group is observational extragalactic astronomy and cosmology, specifically high redshift galaxies and clusters (Casey Papovich), galaxy groups and clusters (Kim-Vy Tran), resolved stellar populations (Lucas Macri), supernovae (Nick Suntzeff, Kevin Krisciunas, Lifan Wang), and Antarctic telescopes (Lifan Wang). TAMU is a founding member of the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) consortium, and Darren DePoy and Jennifer Marshall are leading a team to design and build instruments for current telescopes and the GMT. TAMU is also a member of the HET Dark Energy Experiment (HETDEX), the Dark Energy Survey (DES), and the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST).

The initial appointment is for two years, with an additional year contingent on performance and funding. The position includes competitive benefits through TAMU; see http://employees.tamu.edu/employees/benefits/ for details. Generous research and travel funds are also provided. College Station is a large university town that is ideal for young families; it is conveniently located only 1.5 hours away from the cosmopolitan cities of both Houston and Austin.

The selected candidate must provide official proof of completed PhD or equivalent degree requirements before the agreed upon start-date; the expected start-date is between January and September 2012. Electronic submissions are required. Interested applicants should send CV, list of publications, and summary of research accomplishments and interests as .pdf files to astro.tamu@gmail.com. Candidates should also arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be emailed directly to astro.tamu@gmail.com.

Review of applications will begin December 9, 2011. Applications received by this date will receive full consideration. Applicants are encouraged to attend the January 2012 AAS meeting, where interviews may be held. TAMU is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer, and we especially encourage applications from women and members of minority groups; TAMU is also very supportive of dual career couples.
