Postdoctoral Researcher in Extragalactic Astrophysics

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar position to begin summer/fall 2023. Applicants with UV and optical spectroscopic and/or IFU experience are especially encouraged to apply. We welcome all applicants interested in exploring the astrophysics of the circumgalactic/intergalactic/interstellar gas and galaxies. The successful applicant will work in the group of Profs. Chris Howk and Nicolas Lehner and lead projects with data obtained from the future James Webb Telescope, the Hubble Space Telescope, the Large Binocular Telescope, and the Keck Telescopes.

Applicants demonstrating strong writing skills, analytical skills, research creativity, and a history of successful project completion will be viewed favorably. 

The successful applicant must complete their Ph.D. before assuming the position. A complete application includes a cover letter expressing the candidate’s background and interest in the position, curriculum vitae with publications, a research statement, and three letters of reference. The research statement should address past/current research and future interests (~2 pages). Applications received by December 9, 2022, will receive full consideration. Please contact Profs. The initial appointment will be for one year based on University policy, with the expectation that the appointment will last at least three years, contingent on annual performance reviews. Base salary will be commensurate with experience.
