Job Announcement Text:

Princeton University and the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) are searching for a joint tenured Professor in the Department of Astrophysical Sciences and Head of the Theory Department at PPPL, to begin in September 2021.  The successful candidate should be internationally recognized as a leader in the field with a broad perspective across the full range of contemporary theoretical plasma physics, and have extensive experience carrying out research at the highest level in the core areas of theoretical fusion physics and basic plasma science.  Some additional experience in either low-temperature plasma science, high energy density science or astrophysical plasmas would also be of interest.  The primary selection criteria will be accomplishment and breadth in research, ability to lead a large group of theorists as well as the interest to teach a broad range of courses and to supervise undergraduate and graduate student research projects.  Information on PPPL’s Theory Department can be found at https://theory.pppl.gov, Astrophysical Sciences departmental resources and research programs can be found at https://web.astro.princeton.edu/ and the Princeton Program in Plasma Physics can be found at https://plasma.princeton.edu.

A shared goal of both the department and the lab is diversifying the community of scientists and making the field more equitable and inclusive. With this in mind, we will take into consideration personal experiences as well as efforts in education, outreach or other service activities related to plasma science that demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion, which may be described in a separate section of the research statement.

Applicants should apply via https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/18101.  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.  Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2020.

Applications require: a cover letter, complete curriculum vitae including publications, and separate 3-4 page descriptions of research and teaching interests.  Contact information for at least three letters of recommendation must also be submitted through the above site. For further inquiries, contact [email protected].

All applicants must have a Ph.D. and a record of research productivity.  They must also be committed to teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

This position is subject to the University’s background check policy. Princeton University is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
