Job Description

We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher to study the role of mergers in galaxy evolution utilizing imaging data from large galaxy surveys (such as data from the Kilo-Degree Survey and the Euclid mission). Applicants should have a Ph.D. in astronomy or a related field. Applicants with experience with large galaxy surveys, machine learning and/or hydrodynamic simulations are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will join the research group led by dr. Lingyu Wang at SRON Netherlands Institute for Space Research (SRON) and University of Groningen.

The appointment is initially for 2 years. Funding is available for extension up to 4 years based on satisfactory performance. The nominal start date is 1 September 2021. Employment of this full-time position at SRON-Groningen is by NWO (The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research). The salary will be in accordance with the salary scales of NWO scale 10 with a maximum of € 4.452,-- gross per month on a full-time basis (highly depending on level of education and experience).
