Job Description

Applications are invited for 3-5 postdoctoral research associate positions in experimental and observational cosmology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Research will be in collaboration with Professors Jeffrey Filippini, Gil Holder, and Joaquin Vieira, as well as the broader cosmology faculty at Illinois. Preferred start date is Summer or Fall 2020.

Well-qualified candidates are sought in both instrumentation development and the analysis of observational data. Key instrumentation efforts include the Terahertz Intensity Mapper (TIM), a balloon-borne spectrometer mission; the South Pole Telescope (SPT-3G); CMB-S4; and future efforts. Science analysis opportunities include studies of cosmology and submillimeter galaxies using data from the South Pole Telescope, the SPIDER balloon-borne CMB mission, the BICEP/Keck Array program, ALMA, and JWST Early Release data.

Candidates are expected to have earned or be close to earning a Ph.D. in Physics or Astronomy, to be experienced with relevant instrumentation (e.g. cryogenics, low-temperature detectors, and superconducting electronics) and/or data analysis techniques, and to have excellent oral and written communication skills..
