Post-doctoral Fellowship in the Development of Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detectors (MKIDs)

The Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS) is offering a position to work on the development of Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detectors (MKIDs). MKIDs are novel low temperature, superconducting detectors capable of counting single photons and simultaneously determining their individual energies and arrival times. They have many fascinating applications especially in astronomy but also in additional scientific fields. The project is funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) and is in collaboration with Trinity College Dublin and Maynooth University.

The successful applicant will work on the design, optimization, fabrication and characterization of MKID arrays. Ideally we are looking for applicants with interest or experience in clean room fabrication including sputter deposition, dry etching and optical lithography. This position is available for 2 years starting as early as possible. Remuneration is based on SFI post-doctoral fellowship team member budget scales (available here) and starting salary will depend on experience.

They should also arrange for two letters of reference to be provided separately by the same date. Applicants should have a PhD in physics, engineering, or a closely related field.
