Job Description

The Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Utah invites applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in astronomy & astrophysics.  We are especially interested in candidates with experience in computational applications to research problems, e.g., for large datasets/surveys, numerical simulations, etc. We seek candidates who also show promise as effective educators and mentors, and who will contribute positively to a diverse and inclusive environment within the department and at the University of Utah. The expected start date is August 2021.

 

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field. The successful applicant will be expected to establish an active research program involving undergraduate and Ph.D. students, to teach two courses per year, and to take an active role in advancing the mission of the Department of Physics & Astronomy. The new faculty member will complement the Department's current “Astro Group Faculty” (as listed on http://www.physics.utah.edu/research/astronomy-astrophysics.php) in galaxy formation and evolution; Galactic archaeology and chemodynamics; planet formation; galaxy clusters; theoretical gravitational dynamics; and observational cosmology.
