Job Announcement Text:

The Observatory of the Côte d'Azur calls for applications to a postdoctoral position on «Galactic archaeology with Gaia and related spectroscopic surveys». The successful applicants will work with A. Recio-Blanco and the Galactic Archaeology Group in Nice. The main scientific interests of the group are Galactic stellar populations, Galaxy formation and history, automatic stellar parametrisation and chemical analysis. The group is strongly involved in the ESA/Gaia mission and complementary ground-based spectroscopic surveys as GES, AMBRE, WEAVE, 4MOST, MOONS,... Gaia is surveying the full sky and its second data release is planned for April, 2018. The hired postdoc is expected to start before this date in order to be able to be well prepared for its exploitation. Gaia will revolutionize our knowledge of the Milky Way stellar populations, inducing a strong change in the measurement of stellar distances, dynamics and ages. Related spectroscopic surveys have the objectives to complement the spectroscopic information provided by Gaia.

We are seeking a highly qualified collaborator to work on Galactic archaeology projects based on these Gaia and related survey data. Experiences in observational Galactic physics and/or stellar chemical analysis will be favoured, but all applicants with experience in related areas will be considered. Preference will also be given to candidates with independent research programs.

The position is for 2 years. The offered remuneration (in the range 24,000-30,000€) includes the French health care for the applicant and her/his family together with at least 5 weeks paid annual leave. Funds for travel and research will be available, as well as easy access to computing facilities.

Applicants are requested to send a CV, a list of publications, a description (3 pages) of past/future research and accomplishments together with 3 letters of reference by October 15, 2017.
