Centre for the Universe Honorary Postdoctoral Fellowships

Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics is pleased to announce three new named postdoctoral fellowships to support outstanding young scientists working in theoretical cosmology and astrophysics.

The fellowships are named for three pre-eminent 20th century cosmologists: S. W. Hawking, P. J. E. Peebles, and Ya B. Zel’dovich.  Fellows will join Perimeter’s thriving scientific community as members of the new Centre for the Universe, for terms of three or five years. Fellows will receive a highly competitive salary, as well as benefits and research support.

The Centre’s mission is to advance our most basic understanding of the cosmos through the intensive development and testing of competing theoretical ideas, leading-edge data analysis, and the design of novel experiments and observations.  

Researchers already associated with the Centre include full-time Perimeter Faculty, Associate Faculty, Distinguished Visiting Research Chairs, and Visiting Fellows, listed here. Steering Committee members include Asimina Arvanitaki, Avery Broderick, Neal Dalal, Luis Lehner, Kendrick Smith, Ue-Li Pen, and Will Percival. Neil Turok is the Centre’s Director. Stephen Hawking and 2015 Nobel laureate Art McDonald serve as Scientific Patrons for the Centre.

Perimeter’s areas of strength include cosmology, particle physics, strong gravity, quantum gravity, quantum fields and strings, mathematical physics, quantum foundations, quantum information, and quantum condensed matter.

Perimeter Institute is located in Waterloo, Canada, just west of Toronto. The Institute offers an exceptional research environment and is currently staffed with 40 full-time and part-time faculty members, 54 Distinguished Visiting Research Chairs, 55 Postdoctoral Researchers and 92 graduate students pursuing Masters and PhD degrees at the institute. Perimeter also hosts over 1,000 visitors and conference participants throughout the academic year.

Applicants must submit: a curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests and a list of publications. They must also arrange for at least three letters of reference to be submitted on their behalf. Applications (including recommendation letters) must be submitted through Perimeter Institute's online application form.
