The Department of the Geophysical Sciences at the University of Chicago invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, and tenured faculty positions at the ranks of Associate Professor and Professor. The search is open to any area within the field of Earth and planetary sciences and related interdisciplinary research, including  research programs that would integrate and expand the department’s strengths in climate change science, environmental science, and geobiology. We seek individuals who will lead world-class research programs and enhance the intellectual endeavors of the department and the university. Ongoing research activities can be found on the department website. All University departments and institutes are charged with building a faculty from a diversity of backgrounds and with diverse viewpoints, to cultivating an inclusive community that values freedom of expression, and to welcoming and supporting all their members.



Completion of all requirements for the PhD prior to appointment is required. Additionally, Associate Professor and Professor appointments require evidence of leadership in the field and successful independent research record.
