Job Description

The University of Maryland Department of Astronomy invites applications for a postdoctoral associate position in long-wavelength observational Extragalactic Astronomy. The postdoctoral associate will work with Professor Alberto Bolatto analyzing JWST imaging and spectroscopy and mm-wave surveys of nearby galaxies. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work on projects including but not limited to analysis of JWST observations of starburst winds, mid-IR spectroscopy of massive extragalactic clusters, highly resolved observations of low metallicity systems, and dust and molecular gas properties in the context of IFU spectroscopy in galaxies. They will also have the chance to be part of several established long-term collaborations (EDGE, PHANGS, LGLBS). Prior experience with mid-IR and/or mm-wave data analysis, good familiarity with Python and CASA, and strong scientific writing skills are preferred. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in astronomy or a related field by the start date of the position.

The appointment will be for two years, with continuation for one more year contingent on performance and the availability of funding. The expected start date is Fall 2024. Along with salary and benefits, the appointment will include limited allowances for travel and moving expenses.
