Job Description

The Department of Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for a postdoctoral research position to collaborate with Professors Marc Pinsonneault, Jennifer Johnson, and an international team in areas connected to the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), asteroseismic analysis of cool evolved stars, and applications to the study of stellar physics and stellar populations. We anticipate that the postdoctoral researcher will spend roughly half of their time on the extraction of asteroseismic parameters from TESS lightcurves from full frame images (FFIs), with the remainder of their effort on science projects of their choice.

The appointment will begin in Spring-Summer 2019 or earlier and run for two years with extension to a third year possible based on performance and availability of funds.

Assets of the Ohio State department include a 1/6 observing share of the Large Binocular Telescope, a 1/4 share of MDM observatory, membership in all SDSS-IV projects and a lively scientific environment.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in astronomy or a related field by the start date of the appointment and experience in the analysis of large time series data sets. Direct experience in the extraction of asteroseismic parameters from time series data and the usage of machine learning tools is helpful but not required. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.

Application Instructions: Please visit the Ohio State University’s job postings website at http://www.jobsatosu.com/postings/90789 to submit a CV and a statement of research interests. Only applications submitted through jobsatosu.com will be accepted. The Ohio State University is an NSF Advance Institution.

The Ohio State University is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, or protected veteran status.
