Postdoctoral Researcher in Nearby Galaxies and Resolved Stellar Populations

The Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics in the College of Natural and Health Sciences at The University of Tampa has an opening for a limited term full-time grant funded postdoctoral position with benefits. This position will carry out research on nearby galaxies, resolved stellar populations and near-field cosmology in collaboration with Dr. Denija Crnojevic. The initial position will be for 18 months, renewable based on availability of funds, and it is available immediately.

Responsibilities

1. Assist with leading large ongoing surveys primarily focused on photometric studies of nearby dwarf galaxies and their stellar halos.
2. The Magellanic Analog Dwarf Companions And Stellar Halos (MADCASH) project revolves around datasets from wide-field ground-based instruments as well as from the Hubble Space Telescope; the primary goals are finding faint dwarf satellites in the host galaxy halos, characterizing their stellar populations, and reconstructing the past formation and interaction histories of isolated galaxies in the Magellanic Clouds mass range.
3. Plan and perform new observations, collaborate closely with Dr. Carlin (Steward Observatory) and Dr. Peter (Ohio State University) on all aspects of this project.

Qualifications

1. Candidates must hold a PhD in Astronomy, Physics or a related field by the start date.
2. Previous experience with similar datasets as noted above will be beneficial.
