Peking University invites applications for 2-3 faculty positions at the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (KIAA) and the Department of Astronomy (DoA), starting on September 1, 2023. Faculty recruitment is open to qualified applicants in all areas of astronomy and astrophysics, including (1) observational cosmology, galaxy formation and evolution, (2) planetary systems, star formation, and stellar populations, (3) high-energy and gravitational physics, (4) particle astrophysics, and (5) computational astrophysics.

Peking University is one of the top universities in China, with astronomers at the forefront of exciting domestic and international initiatives. We have a large and talented student body (80 graduate and 120 undergraduate students), a vibrant postdoctoral program (35 postdocs), and 23 faculty. PKU astronomy has close links to a network of domestic and international astronomy centers, and regularly sponsors thematic workshops and conferences to provide a platform for scientific discussions. Peking University astronomy hosts the CSST PKU Science Center, which will play a pivotal role in analysis of survey data from the Chinese Space Station Telescope.  English is the working language of the KIAA, and we strongly encourage applicants of any nationality to apply.

RANK: We seek well-qualified applicants at the level of tenure-track assistant professor or full professor. Particularly meritorious candidates will be considered at the level of chair professor.

START DATE: September 1, 2023

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, planetary sciences or related fields, a demonstrated record of research excellence, and potential to obtain external funding.
