Postdoctoral Research Position in Galaxy Dynamics
Job Summary
Job Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Sejong University (Seoul, South Korea) and the Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory (AAO, Florence, Italy) of the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) invite applications for a postdoctoral position in galaxy dynamics. The successful applicant will be primarily based in Seoul to work with Prof. Kyu-Hyun Chae and will spend long periods of time in Florence to work with Dr. Federico Lelli.
The successful applicant will work on an extensive database of rotation curves and mass models of nearby galaxies (the successor of the SPARC database: http://astroweb.cwru.edu/SPARC/) and use it to test cosmological models and gravity theories. Applicants with previous expertise in the kinematic modeling of emission-line data, near-IR surface photometry, and galaxy dynamics are particularly encouraged to apply.
The appointment is initially for two years with the possibility of extending for another year. The desired start date is March 1, 2023 or later depending on the applicant's situation. The monthly salary will depend on the experience and qualification conforming to the standards set by Sejong University. Adequate funds for traveling and participation in international conferences will be available.
The Sejong Astrophysics Group has nine faculty members including four international members. Seoul is a large international city of modern and historic attractions. The Florence Extragalactic Group has 15 faculty members including researchers based at INAF-AAO and the nearby University of Florence (https://sites.google.com/inaf.it/exagal). Other research fields at INAF-AAO include stars, star formation, and exoplanets; relativistic astrophysics and astroparticles; the Sun and the Solar System; advanced technology and instrumentation in Astronomy (https://www.arcetri.inaf.it/en/).
The applicant should email a CV including a statement of research experiences and interests and arrange two letters of reference to be emailed directly to Kyu-Hyun Chae at [email protected] by December 15, 2022.
