Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral Position in “Spectrophotometric modelling of galaxies applied to integral-field spectroscopy” to be held at the Padova Observatory of the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) (Post doc position - D.D. 43/2019). The position is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant n. 833824. The Padova Observatory is one of the main structures of INAF, a network of 17 research institutes spread throughout Italy. INAF is a world leading institute and is a major partner of ESO.

The successful applicant will work in the extragalactic group in Padova and join the international GASP team (http://web.oapd.inaf.it/gasp/). He/she will contribute to develop and will apply novel spectrophotometric techniques to derive star formation histories and stellar population properties of galaxies based on integral field spectroscopy and imaging multi wavelength data. The goal of this research is to reconstruct galaxy evolutionary histories as a function of galaxy properties and galaxy environment. The position is offered for 2 years, renewable up to 4 years, with anticipated starting date from February 2019 onward, negotiable. The annual salary is 38.000 euro. A research and travel budget is available, health and work insurances are included. For additional information contact Dr. Bianca Maria Poggianti ([email protected]) or Dr. Alessia Moretti ([email protected]).

The official call for applications, along with all the required documents, can be found at: http://www.oapd.inaf.it/index.php/it/albo/9-uncategorised/231-opportunita-di-lavoro.html

Applicants should have a PhD in physics, astronomy or related subject (or 3yrs after Master Degree) by the deadline for applications. Experience in spectrophotometric modelling techniques and/or photoionization models is a plus.
Applications and at least two reference letters should be submitted via e-mail to: [email protected] by November 30, 2019.
