The successful applicant will join the Simons Observatory (SO) team, accessing the new data from SO (https://simonsobservatory.org/) after it comes on-line in March 2023, and will have access to a supercomputer with more than 1000 CPUs and 3000 GPUs at PUC. The postdoc will also have access to 10% of the observing time of all other telescopes installed in Chile, including ALMA, Gemini, Magellan, VLT, and many others.
The successful applicant is expected to contribute in the development of a new data reduction pipeline for fast mapping and follow-up of point-like extragalactic sources and galaxy clusters, implementing new techniques for speeding up data selection, calibration and map making, participating in the analysis of CMB polarized maps, including thermal and kinetic Sunyaev Zel’dovich effect and radio source detections, with special focus on follow-up observations using other telescope facilities in the country.
The successful applicant should have a PhD in Astronomy or Astrophysics or related fields, or have submitted their PhD thesis by the time they take up the post. Suitable candidates should demonstrate proven research ability, with a good publication record in the field of CMB studies, and with experience in data processing reduction techniques. Programming skills and team work capabilities are important.
