Applications are invited for FAPESP postdoctoral fellowships on planetary tide theory based on the creep tide equations, in the group of Prof. Sylvio Ferraz-Mello
The postdoctoral scholars will work on the extension of the creep tide theory to inclined systems (non zero obliquities) and the obtention of the formulas ruling the tidal evolution of the orbits of close-in exoplanets and the rotation of the planets and host star, with apllication to existing data, in preparation for the study of PLATO objects. Later on, third-body perturbations shall be included on the model.
More details on the FAPESP project approved for the position is available at http://www.astro.iag.usp.br/~sylvio/PDproject.pdf
Candidates must have previous knowledge of the creep tide theory and experience in theoretical Celestial Mechanics with emphasis on the dynamics of planetary systems, chaos and resonances. They should hold a PhD granted in 2016-2022.
The positions are funded by FAPESP for 2 years and it may be possible to extend the fellowship for a third year.
The starting date is between December 2022 and March 2023. Monthly salary (tax free) is BRL 8479 (about US$1580). The postdoc research/travel budget is BRL 10175 per year. Airfare + BRL 8479 (to help with relocation) will be paid for fellows from abroad.
In order to apply, please send by December 1st, 2022, the following documents to Prof. Ferraz-Mello ([email protected]).
- A cover letter indicating preferred starting date
- Curriculum vitae following the FAPESP model
- Publication list
- Summary of achievements (previous and present research, up to 2 pages)
- Applications should also arange for two letters of recommendation to be sent directly to Prof. Ferraz-Mello ([email protected]).
