This postdoctoral position focuses on the implementation of advanced lasing concepts at the European XFEL as a member of the FEL R&D groupt at DESY. Particularly, simulations towards the generation of sub-fs X-ray pulses through various methods are envisioned. The project is still in development and the hired researcher will be able to influence it both in the design as well as during the commissioning stage. The FEL R&D group is embedded into the European XFEL acceleator operations group and you will also be part of the daily operation challenges for this unique facilty.

About your role:

• FEL and beam dynamics simulation studies on both chirp/ taper and eSASE
• Being part of the commissioning team of the system
• Support the operation of the EuXFEL
• Independent research and presentation of the achieved results

About you:

• PhD in accelerator or FEL related field or equivalent qualification
• Research background in beam dynamics or FEL physics
• Experience with numerical simulations (Elegant/Genesis/ Ocelot ... ) and high level scripting languages
• Good command of English, knowledge of German is a benefit
• Excellent teamwork abilities in an International environment
