The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Utah invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in computational/survey astrophysics to collaborate with Dr. Yao-Yuan Mao and their research group. The postdoctoral researcher at this position will carry out collaborative research programs on topics that are overlapping with Dr. Mao’s research interests, including cosmological simulations, galaxy-halo connection models, spectroscopic and photometric surveys, dwarf galaxies in the nearby Universe, and astrophysical probes for dark matter.
Dr. Mao is an incoming Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy, starting in Summer 2022. To learn more about Dr. Mao and their research, please visit https://yymao.github.io/.
Dr. Mao, the Department, and the University of Utah are all committed to providing an inclusive and diverse environment. We seek candidates who share these values and, through their day-to-day interactions, will support and promote an inclusive environment in the department.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field by the time of appointment, expected to be September 1, 2022 but negotiable. Appointment length for this position will be 3 years. The position provides a competitive salary ($60,000 per year), an annual research fund, benefits, and relocation expenses. The University can sponsor J-1 or H-1b visas for non-US citizens.
To apply, please fill out this form (https://forms.gle/YHa6QNHmqEiEmJxM7) and follow the instructions. Applicants are encouraged to first apply for the Eccles AstroData Postdoctoral Fellowship in Astronomy & Astrophysics (https://jobregister.aas.org/ad/aea66e28). Once the applicant has applied for the Eccles Fellowship, they can simply fill out the above application form to be considered for this postdoctoral research position. No additional material is needed, but the applicant can provide an optional paragraph to supply any information relevant to this position.
For applicants who wish to apply for this postdoctoral research position only, and not the Eccles Fellowship, they can also fill out the same application form. The form will prompt the applicant to submit a single PDF file that includes a cover letter, curriculum vitae (with a list of publications), a statement of research interests and plans (roughly 4 pages or less), and contact information for (at least one) references. Letters of recommendation will be collected at a later stage.
For full consideration, all materials (excluding letters of recommendation) should be received by December 6, 2021. Inquiries about this position should be addressed to Dr. Mao at [email protected].
