Job Description

The Department of Physics at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman is expanding its Astronomy Group and would like to invite highly qualified astronomers to apply for a faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level in the fields of Astronomy/Astrophysics.

The successful candidate is expected to have a well established teaching and research record and willing to engage in the ongoing efforts of the Department to augment its Astronomy program. Current research areas of the Astronomy Group include high energy astrophysics of compact objects, accretion disks, active galactic nuclei, observational and computational astronomy. The Astronomy Group also collaborates closely with the High Energy Physics group of the Department which has recently established a co-operation agreement with CERN. Furthermore, the successful candidate will need to contribute to the curriculum development of the Department’s undergraduate Astronomy Minor program as well as the establishment of postgraduate courses. 

Candidates for this position are required to have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Physics, Astronomy, or a related field. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The deadline for applications is March 15th 2020. The interviews and selection process will take place early April 2020 and the successful candidate is expected to commence his/her contract in September 2020.
