Job Description

The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at The Pennsylvania State University has an immediate opening for a Research Technologist Level 2 - Science Planner on the Science Operations Team of the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory program. Swift (http://swift.gsfc.nasa.gov) is a NASA MIDEX-class Explorer mission operating since November 2004.

The duties of a Research Technologist-Science Planner include:

  • Creating schedules for targets to be observed by Swift
  • Participating in Swift operations as required
  • Supporting science analysis conducted by Swift research faculty

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in computing programming, especially in the Python language, is desirable. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with the possibility of renewal.
