Postdoctoral Research Associate - Accreting Pulsars
Job Summary
Job Description
Postdoctoral Research Associate - Accreting Pulsars
University of Massachusetts Lowell
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at UMass Lowell Center for Space Science and Technology to work on Accreting Pulsars with Drs. Silas Laycock and Dimitris Christodoulou.
The successful applicant will develop codes to model X-ray pulse profiles as a way to infer the structure of the accretion flow, and explore the time evolution of pulsar magnetospheres. They will also identify and reduce X-ray observations to augment the group’s library of pulse-profiles in ways that meaningfully extend our parameter space. This will include processing archival data from XMM-Newton, NuSTAR, Swift, Chandra, as well as proposing for new observations.
Qualifications:
- Applicants must have a Ph.D. in astrophysics or a related field by the date of hire
- Experience with x-ray astronomy datasets and computational modeling are strongly preferred.
