Job Description

The Astronomy Group at Universidad Diego Portales (UDP), in Chile, invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral research position in extragalactic astrophysics. The successful applicant will work on observational studies of Active Galactic Nuclei in the group led by Prof. Claudio Ricci. The candidate is expected to have experience in the study of AGN, and familiarity with X-ray data reduction will be considered an asset. A fraction of time will be available for independent research.

Santiago hosts a large and vibrant scientific community working on AGN, with ~45 scientists distributed in four universities and three institutes (see www.agnsantiago.cl). While at UDP, successful candidates will qualify as members of the Chilean community and will be eligible for the 10% privileged access to all telescopes in Chile, including ALMA, Gemini South, VLT, Magellan, CTIO, SOAR, La Silla, APEX, and ASTE, as well as to future facilities such as LSST.

Applications should be submitted by e-mail in pdf format to [email protected] by January 30, 2020 to ensure full consideration. The applications should include a 1-page research statement (including current and previous research and a research plan), and a CV (with a publication list). In addition, applicants should provide the names and contact information of 3 references willing to provide letters of recommendation on request. We encourage applications from women and minority groups. The postdoctoral position includes a generous yearly research budget and support for health insurance.
