Job Description

The Department of Astronomy at the University of Florida invites applications for a postdoctoral associate to conduct research on topics related to galaxy evolution, star formation, and/or the physics of the ISM. The successful candidate will develop and analyze a new generation of galaxy evolution simulations with Drs. Paul Torrey & Desika Narayanan to further these research goals. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2022, though with some flexibility.

The position is renewable annually for up to three years based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. A Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics or a related field is required prior to the start date. A competitive salary and funds for research/travel will be provided, and the position includes a benefits package.

The successful candidate will have access to ample computational resources via the newly built HiPerGator research computing cluster, on which Torrey & Narayanan maintain a significant allocation. The University of Florida has active research groups in theoretical astrophysics, galaxy formation and evolution, ISM physics, star formation, stellar astronomy, extrasolar planets and instrumentation, with vibrant groups both in the Department of Astronomy and Department of Physics. In addition, they will have access to collaborative opportunities campus-wide via the newly established Informatics Institute at the University of Florida, and artificial intelligence initiative.

For full consideration, applications must be submitted online and must include: (1) a cover letter, (2) a research proposal summarizing the applicant's ongoing research directions, and interests, (3) a curriculum vitae, and (4) publication list. In addition, names and email addresses for three or more references must be provided on the application. After initial review, letters of recommendation will be requested for selected applicants requesting them to upload their letters. Applications will be reviewed beginning January 15th, 2022, and the position will remain open until filled. To ensure full consideration, application materials should be received by January 15th, 2022.
