The Department of Astronomy at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a tenured faculty position at the level of associate or full professor in exoplanet science, especially in theoretical studies of exoplanet atmospheres or exoplanet formation. We also welcome applications from exceptional pre-tenure individuals with strong research portfolios. We seek candidates with active research programs who can take advantage of the robust high performance computing resources available on our campus and who are committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

IU has excellent information technology infrastructure including TeraGrid computing resources, supercomputer capability, and massive and rapid access data storage systems, as well as an innovative School of Informatics and Computing and an Advanced Visualization Laboratory that supports IU researchers. In collaboration with the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, we are home to a growing planetary/exoplanetary research group including faculty, postdocs, and graduate and undergraduate students. An additional position in planetary science is planned in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. We also maintain close ties with the Physics Department and the wider campus community.

We are a small, friendly department offering both undergraduate and graduate degrees in astronomy and astrophysics. The department includes 18-20 graduate students and typically 45 undergraduate majors. The department enjoys a supportive and collegial atmosphere, and we are committed to building and supporting a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community of students and scholars.
