Job Description

Gemini Observatory (North located in Hilo, Hawaii) has an opening for a research intern (undergraduate student or recent graduate) to work with Dr. Marie Lemoine-Busserolle on the analysis of near-infrared integral filed spectroscopy taken with the GEMINI North instrument NIFS of high-redshift galaxy. The duration of the internship will be 4 months, will be full time during that period, and will have a starting date in May 2017 or (earlier or later), to be decided when the successful candidate is selected.


The intern will use the Nifty Python pipeline to reduce ~ 8 hours of NIFS + LGS data. A second portion of the internship will focus on updated the NIFS Python pipeline Nifty to work with AstroCondo.

Requirements:

The successful applicant will have good English communication skills, including being able to clearly document performed work. Students with prior experience with UNIX/Linux/MacOS-X, astronomical data reduction using IRAF/IDL, and programming skills (especially python) will be given preference.
