The Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICG) intends to appoint a Research Fellow in Data Intensive Science from September 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is to enhance and complement the programme of world-class research at the ICG.
Data Intensive Science (or “Big Data”) has been recognised by the UK government as one of the eight great technologies. This fellowship is to build capacity in this exciting area of research and innovation, drawing on a variety of data-rich possibilities at the University of Portsmouth.
The post is based in the ICG which is recognised for its world-leading research in large complex data (e.g. SDSS, DES, LSST and SKA). The successful candidate will have an excellent research record, complementing and extending the existing research interests and expertise in cosmology and astrophysics. They will be expected to help develop new opportunities for research and innovation, and participate in attracting external funding. Holders of personal research fellowships are encouraged to apply.
For informal enquiries please contact [email protected] or phone +44 (0)23 9284 5151.
We welcome applications from all qualified applicants, but applications are particularly encouraged from traditionally under-represented groups in science. The ICG and the University of Portsmouth both hold an Athena SWAN bronze award and is an Institute of Physics Project Juno Supporter; these projects show a commitment to introduce organisational and cultural practices that promote gender equality in science and create a better working environment for men and women.
Applications (application form, CV, publication list and research statement) should be submitted via the online application system by the closing date. Applicants should also arrange for up to three reference letters to be sent by email to [email protected], to arrive by the same date. It is the policy of the University to only accept applications submitted using the University’s online application system.
