Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Research Fellow in Weak Gravitational Lensing to join our team, led by Professor Andy Taylor at the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh. 

The Opportunity:

We are offering a 4-year post to develop and apply new methods in Weak Gravitational Lensing and Photometric Redshift Clustering, to be applied to the Euclid Dark Energy Mission, which is expected to be launched in 2023.  An internal data release is expected in 2024 and first science papers are due in 2025. Development and initial analysis of the second Euclid data release will take place in 2026 and 2027. The successful candidate will join the Euclid Consortium, and have the opportunity to interact closely with Euclid scientists and Euclid Data Centre at Edinburgh and within the wider Consortium. 

The position is fixed term, 4 years (01 April 2023 - 31 March 2027)

Salary: £43,414 - 51,805 p.a.

Start Date: Fexible, from 01 April 2023, no later than 1st Oct 2023

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • Possess  a PhD in Physics, Astronomy or related subject.
  • Expertise in the field of Cosmology, in particular the Weak Gravitational Lensing and Photometric Redshift analysis of Wide Field Surveys.
  • Background in mathematical analysis, data analysis and good computer skills
  • Ability to introduce novel ideas, to develop, test and apply original solutions
  • Ability to work individually and within a team
  • Experience to communicate complex and conceptual ideas to others will limited knowledge and to experts, at a professional level using a range of media
