The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Research Fellow to contribute towards the research efforts of the School of Physics and Astronomy. This is an opportunity to join an interdisciplinary team that is leading the world in groundbreaking physics and astronomy research.

Reporting to Professor Eric Thrane and Associate Professor Paul Lasky, the Research Fellow will carry out research in areas related to gravitational-wave astronomy. This includes but is not limited to gravitational-wave data analysis, astrophysics of gravitational-wave sources, and tests of general relativity. The Research Fellow will work on software development for understanding the astrophysics of gravitational-wave sources detected by ground-based gravitational-wave observatories. They will work within the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery (OzGrav) and the LIGO Scientific Collaboration.

The successful candidates will hold a PhD in astrophysics, physics, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or a closely related field, and have experience in gravitational-wave astronomy, Bayesian methods, time-series analysis, general relativity, and/or high-energy astrophysics. They will have demonstrated analytical and manuscript preparation skills, including a track record of refereed research.
