Lectureship in Near Universe Astrophysics

UCL invites applications for a lectureship in the area of Near Universe Astrophysics, defined as the astrophysics of the Milky Way and nearby galaxies, including supernovae. The lecturer will be part of the Astrophysics group and is expected to have an excellent record of academic research. The lectureship in Near Universe Astrophysics is aimed at strengthening our galactic and/or nearby galaxies research portfolio. The post holder will be expected to be undertaking world-class research in topic(s) within this area. They will be expected to enhance the Group’s consolidated grant portfolio, as well as raise funds from other external sources to provide support for their research, postdoctoral research staff and PhD students. Proven ability to raise funds for one's own research (e.g. through a personal fellowship) would be an advantage. The post-holder would be expected to undertake normal undergraduate teaching duties within the Department, supervise postgraduate students, and contribute to the general life of the Department and University.

Essential requirements: a PhD in Physics or Astrophysics (or a closely related discipline) and a high profile in any area within the general field of Near Universe astrophysics.

The Astrophysics Group is one of the largest in the UK, comprising about 90 members of academic, research and support staff, of which 22 are academic staff members. Our research areas cover massive stars, star formation, interstellar and circumstellar processes, astrochemistry, cosmology, galaxy formation and evolution, planetary science, extra-solar planets, atmospheric physics and instrumentation.
